Student Leaders

Chief – Connor Oakes

Connor is a fourth year majoring in Neuroscience on the Pre-Medical track. He is an EMT at Lake Monticello Rescue Squad and conducts Alzheimer’s disease research in the Neuroscience department. On Grounds, he is a member of Phi Delta Epsilon pre-medical fraternity and volunteers at UVA Health’s cancer center. Outside of EMS and academics, Connor enjoys pickleball, running, board games, and spending time with friends.

Deputy Chief – Ainsley Sadler

Ainsley is a fourth year Neuroscience major and CORE Scholar from Bristow, Virginia on the Pre-Medical track. Ainsley is an EMT with Delta Response Team and the President of CavsCARE, teaching CPR and BLS emergency prepardness courses. She is an undergraduate researcher in the Sports Injury and Concussion laboratory where she works with UVA D1 athletes, specializing in concussion assessment and management. Outside of academics, Ainsley rides with UVA’s Eventing and Dressage Team and coaches Equestrian Vaulting.

Division Chief of Training & Education – Alex Aymard

Alex is a third year from Leesburg, VA, majoring in Biomedical Engineering on the Pre-Medical track. Since 2022, Alex has been volunteering with Loudoun County Fire Rescue as both a Firefighter and Advanced EMT. Outside of UVA VRS, Alex is involved in College Mentors for Kids, Alpha Delta Pi, Public Service Pathways, and Trigon Engineering Society. In addition, Alex serves as an undergraduate research assistant in the Kibbe-Tsihlis lab.

Division Chief of Operations – Dhanvanth Sairam

Dhanvanth is a second year from Ashburn, VA majoring in Human Biology on the Pre-Medical track with a Chemistry minor. He works as a research assistant in Dr. Kenneth Walsh’s lab at the Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center, studying clonal hematopoiesis and cardiovascular disease. He’s been an active EMT for 2 years and has worked at Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad, and Delta Response Team. Outside of EMS, Dhanvanth is VP of Delta Upsilon Fraternity, coaches boxing for Parkinson’s patients at the PARC, teaches CPR, Stop the Bleed, and Narcan training, and is a STEM instructor for TYEConnects in the greater Charlottesville community.

Division Chief of Support Services – Jackson Haught

Jackson is a third year from Richmond, Virginia studying Neuroscience on a Pre-Medical track. As an undergraduate researcher, he studies concussions in D1 athletes, affective pain modulation through music, and targeted melanoma treatment. He has been an EMT for three years, serving as Crew Chief, Attendant-In-Charge, and the ODEMSA Metro Richmond Sub-Council member at Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad. He also is the publishing lead for the Virginia Review of Politics, academic chair for a psychology communications club, and serves on the class council. Outside of academics, Jackson plays tennis and enjoys performing guitar and vocals around Virginia.

Founder – Kevin Omohundro

Kevin graduated from the University of Virginia in the Class of 2026 with a degree in Biochemistry. He served as an Advanced EMT and Lieutenant with the Lake Monticello Volunteer Rescue Squad, where he worked in quality improvement, provider education, and as a field training preceptor. Prior to graduation, Kevin founded the University of Virginia Volunteer Rescue Squad, helping secure initial funding and establishing the groundwork of the student-run EMS agency. In addition, he founded CavsCARE, a student organization that expanded CPR, AED, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed education throughout the University and greater Charlottesville community. During his time at UVA, Kevin also conducted cancer research in the Pascal Laboratory at the UVA School of Medicine, studying the molecular mechanisms of prostate cancer. In his free time, Kevin enjoys snowboarding, hiking, and photography. Kevin went on to attend the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine for medical school.

Day Shift Captain/Lieutenant – John “Dylan” Myer

Dylan is a third year History major at the University of Virginia. He is hoping to work in intelligence and is pursuing a track in related fields. Dylan is a certified EMT through both NREMT and the NY State Department of Health. Dylan is from NYC and has worked in a variety of fields including EMS, aquarium zoology, and consulting. Outside of his academics, Dylan is a surfer, scuba diver, skier, and has been a boxer for over a decade.

Faculty Leaders

Operating Medical Director – Dr. Bill Brady

William Brady, MD, FACEP, FAAEM is a practicing emergency physician at the University of Virginia (UVA); he is residency trained in both emergency medicine and internal medicine.  He is a Professor of Emergency Medicine, Medicine (Cardiovascular), and Nursing in addition to serving as Executive Vice Chair for the department and the David A. Harrison Distinguished Educator at the UVA Health System. He is a member of the Academy of Distinguished Educators at the UVA School of Medicine and is the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the UVA School of Medicine’s David A. Harrison Distinguished Educator Award, the All-University UVA Faculty Teaching Award, and the American College of Emergency Physicians National Faculty Teaching Award. 

At UVA, he serves as the chair of the UVA Health Medical Center’s Resuscitation Committee and Medical Advisor to UVA’s Department of Safety and Security; in the community, he functions as the operational medical director of Albemarle County Fire Rescue and Medical Advisor to the Charlottesville-Albemarle-UVA Emergency Communications Center.  He is the editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Emergency Medicine and an examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Brady is actively involved in the instruction of healthcare providers on many topics, with a particular focus on the electrocardiogram and cardiac arrest with lectures given regionally, nationally, and internationally.  He has also published numerous scholarly works (original research, reviews, annotated bibliographies, invited editorials, guidelines, and textbook chapters), addressing the electrocardiogram, travel medicine, and mass gathering medicine; in addition, he has written and / or edited multiple textbooks focusing on these subjects.  He has contributed to clinical policy guidelines for both the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Heart Association involving acute coronary syndromes. 

Dr. Brady lives in Charlottesville, VA with his family; he is active in the community, working in volunteer capacities in public safety. 

UPD Liasion – Tom von Hemert

Thomas (Tom) von Hemert is the CIT Coordinator for the Thomas Jefferson Area CIT and has served in this role since 2006. Prior to assuming this position he was the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity (Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro) from 2004 through 2005. From 2000 through 2012, he served as the Criminal Justice Planner for the Thomas Jefferson Area Community Criminal Justice Board (CCJB). From 2009 through today, he is on the Executive Committee of the Virginia CIT State Coalition, and from 2009 until the present, he has been a Criminal Justice Training Consultant.

As Thomas Jefferson Area CIT Coordinator, Tom has trained over 2,000 law enforcement officers since 2006. His program is the largest CIT in Virginia, covering 9 localities and the University of Virginia. He has written and been awarded over millions of dollars of private/state/federal grants for CIT. He co-wrote the state legislature approved “Essential Elements for Virginia CIT.” Tom has mentored the planning/development/implementation of many of the new CIT programs throughout Virginia as well as developing a Statewide Data/Evaluation Projector for CIT.
Since joining the CIT International Board, Tom has been an active board member. Tom presented at the last five CIT International Conferences (topics included: PTSD, Data/Evaluation, Advanced CIT, and 50 New Ways to Improved your CIT). He has also been on several CIT International board committees including: International Data/Evaluation Committee, Fundraising Committee, and the committee to develop the CIT Coordinator Certification Program.

Among Tom’s awards include the 2009 Mental Health Advisory Council Award for Commitment to the Ideal of CIT, the 2011 Virginia CIT Coalition Award for CIT Coordinator of the Year, the 2011 Virginia CIT Coalition Award for CIT Program of the Year, and the 2011 CIT International Award for Best CIT Pin. In 2015 he was awarded the prestigious Clarence Earl Gibeon Award for being a Champion of Equal Justice.
In his spare time, Tom is actively involved in his community. He is a Virginia Blood Services Monthly Platelets Donor and a Volunteer Rowing Coach for local High School.
